Overview / Background of the Study
Establishes the clinical problem, epidemiological burden, pathology, and current global/national perspective.
Key Guidelines & Components
- Describe the disease condition, prevalence, mortality, and morbidity statistics (Global vs. Indian context).
- Highlight historical progress and current standard-of-care treatments.
- Identify knowledge gaps in current medical literature that justify your study.
- Keep length between 2 to 4 pages with citations to high-impact peer-reviewed journals.
Example
“Coronary artery disease (CAD) continues to be the leading cause of premature mortality in India, accounting for over 28% of all deaths. While conventional risk stratification relies on lipid profiles, emerging biomarkers like hs-CRP and serum ferritin have shown prognostic potential in acute coronary syndromes...”
TIPS
Always funnel from global epidemiology -> Indian/regional demographics -> specific hospital or clinical challenge.
